Execution is becoming a product layer
Research agents are increasingly connecting literature, hypothesis generation, computational tools, CROs, and automated laboratories rather than stopping at text generation.
A living view of companies, products, research systems, and infrastructure spanning literature grounding, synthesis, authoring, experiment design, laboratory execution, peer review, publishing, and clinical or regulatory translation.
This is a working map, published with its own audit rather than without one. Stage assignments are our coding, not the companies’ — the average entry is tagged into almost half the lifecycle, so treat the stage counts as a vocabulary rather than a measurement. 32 of 60 sources carry no date, and most are organizations describing themselves, which is the right source for what a product claims to do and the wrong one for whether it works. Several categories have no entry at all — systematic review, guideline development, provenance infrastructure, reproducibility, open-source agents, post-publication integrity, and nutrition. The full certification report is published alongside this map: read it here.
The field is moving from general-purpose scientific chat toward specialized, executable, institutionally embedded systems.
Research agents are increasingly connecting literature, hypothesis generation, computational tools, CROs, and automated laboratories rather than stopping at text generation.
Chemistry, materials, biomedicine, evidence synthesis, and publication integrity are developing distinct products with specialized data, tools, and validation requirements.
Enterprise platforms are combining internal experiments, documents, knowledge graphs, and external evidence to support organizational rather than individual workflows.
Evidence grading, reproducibility checks, image integrity, statistical verification, peer review, and regulatory translation still sit in separate systems.
Select a stage to filter the company landscape below.
Compare positioning, workflow coverage, maturity, and competitive edge across the mapped ecosystem.

25 developments shown
Axios reported a program offering up to 100,000 academic researchers free access to advanced ChatGPT models through 2027.
No matching official OpenAI announcement was located during this audit; retain as secondary reporting only.
Schrodinger announced early access to Bunsen, an agentic co-scientist for molecular discovery.
Launch announcement does not establish comparative effectiveness.
Announced a partnership intended to connect AI research workflows with outsourced physical experiments.
The integrated workflow is described as in progress; performance and adoption are not independently established.
LA County Public Health announced a collaboration to surface local public-health guidance in selected clinical searches.
The partners plan evaluation; results were not yet reported.
Lila reported selection for three DOE Genesis Mission Phase I awards with national-lab and university partners.
Award selection validates participation, not downstream scientific outcomes.
OpenAI announced Codex/API support and scientific-program commitments for DOE Genesis researchers and campaigns.
Commitments and access are verified; scientific outcomes are future-facing.
Launched/expanded the AI Materials Foundry, a network spanning data, compute, laboratories, and industrial partners.
Official site currently reports more than 45 partners; exact partner count may change.
Independent reporting described a roughly $450 million funding round at a roughly $2.6 billion valuation.
Do not confuse the round size with the cumulative amount raised; CuspAI's current site reports cumulative funding above $650 million.
K-Dense published a 20-task comparison reporting stronger execution packaging for K-Dense and slightly higher scientific-quality scores for Claude Science.
Produced by K-Dense, platform identity visible, one judge family, and not independent validation.
AAP confirmed that its research, policies, recommendations, and publications would inform OpenEvidence responses.
Partnership scope does not itself validate answer accuracy.
BenchSci announced that EMET can reason over internal documents, ELNs, reports, and experimental databases alongside external evidence.
Product and efficiency claims are vendor-authored.
BOSC reported AI-assisted evidence gathering for openness, licensing, and runnability while humans retained every acceptance decision.
Reviewers preferred to verify conclusions themselves, supporting bounded rather than autonomous use.
OpenEvidence launched EvidenceGrade to display its assessment of the strength/quality of evidence supporting answers.
The launch source is company-authored; independent calibration, agreement, and decision-impact validation remain open.
BenchSci appointed former Pfizer R&D chief Mikael Dolsten as its first board chair.
Strategic signal, not product-performance evidence.
NewYork-Presbyterian announced an enterprise-scale deployment with affiliated medical schools.
Deployment scale is not equivalent to clinical-outcome evidence.
Consensus expanded advanced search filters to 19 study designs, 44 publishers, and human/animal settings.
Feature availability is verified; effects on review quality or efficiency are not.
Insilico announced initiation of a Phase III trial for rentosertib in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.
Trial initiation is a translational milestone, not evidence of efficacy or approval.
A company-authored preprint described an editor-native Research-Write-Publish architecture and self-reported adoption.
Adoption and time-savings claims are not independently validated.
Nature Machine Intelligence published DeepEvidence, a multi-agent biomedical evidence exploration and synthesis system with an evidence graph.
Benchmark results are stronger evidence than vendor claims, but external replication and real-world outcome studies remain important.
Anthropic launched Claude Science in beta as an AI workbench integrating scientific tools, compute, artifacts, and audit history.
Capabilities are vendor-described; independent task-level evaluation is still limited.
NewsGuard launched a consumer-facing chatbot constrained to journalist-vetted sources and designed to compensate cited publishers.
Trust-source curation is clear; answer-quality and neutrality claims still require independent evaluation.
Nature published a peer-reviewed multi-agent system for automating scientific discovery associated with FutureHouse/Edison researchers.
A research publication is not a blanket validation of the commercial platform or every domain.
A preprint reported clearly labelled AI reviews for 22,977 full-review submissions generated in less than a day, with favorable participant ratings on several dimensions.
Preference/usefulness evidence does not establish editorial decision validity, robustness, or long-term effects.
Logically entered administration; reporting states that core technology, brand, and key assets transferred to Kreatur, while the brand and services continued.
The correct classification is not a simple shutdown or disappearance. Track predecessor company status and successor brand continuity separately.
The largest white spaces sit between workflow layers rather than inside any single point solution.
Few systems preserve a machine-readable chain from source claim through analysis, experiment, manuscript, review, and translation.
Many comparisons are vendor-run, use visible platform identity, static tasks, or LLM judges.
Registration, protocol, analysis plan, manuscript, and supplement are rarely compared automatically.
Displaying a grade is not the same as demonstrating agreement, stability, calibration, or better decisions.
Agents, CROs, robotic labs, ELNs, and instruments lack shared execution/provenance schemas.
AI reviewers can be manipulated by presentation, laundering, prompt injection, prestige, and correlated judgments.
Speed, citations, and generated artifacts are intermediate outcomes.
